Apple Farm

We started lesson #4, Apples, with a school field trip to Pulford's Apple Orchard in Tehachapi (fortunate for us that the field trip happened to correspond with the exact day we were starting our Apple study=)). It was a blast! The boys were able to listen to the apple farmer explain the different varieties that are grown on his orchard and they saw how the apples were seperated then boxed, and finally stored in their refrigerators. After that we went out into the orchard and picked dozens of their gorgeous apples. "The Gang"

The apples were so delicious (after all the dust was cleaned off!)

Lesson 3: Leaf

Luke and I have, since last Thursday, been learning all about leaves. It has been wonderfully informative (especially for me, since prior to google-ing "leaf facts for kids" I knew absolutely zilch) and so much fun. We went on a walk up and down our street picking leaves from different trees and then creating our "Leaf Book". We've done a little pressed leaf project and then today did our leaf painting. The art projects are so fun for Luke and such a great opportunity for me to teach since he's sitting still. It's during those times that I can actually ingrain words like "chlorophyll" and "carbon dioxide" into his sweet little mind. And it amazes me that he still remembers enough when daddy gets home and asks "how was school today?", Luke can answer him with a coherent sentence about how and why leaves change colors in the fall. It is so encouraging! Anyway, tomorrow we finish up our leaf study and then it's on to Apples. =) So fun!

The start of our Adventure...

Welcome to our Homeschool Blog!! We have started, about a month ago actually, to homeschool our oldest son. Here he is writing his name (in all caps, of course) and holding up his finished project at the end of our introduction lesson: Creation. So far so good...

Luke the Artist?

Luke called me into his room yesterday and said "Mommy look!! I drew a wolf!" Sure enough, on his little magnadoodle was a picture that actually resembled a wolf! This is his first "real" drawing! I thought he did a wonderful job and he was so proud of himself. What a big boy!
